Celebrating the Future: Youth Leadership Class of 2025 Graduation

Last Updated 5/6/2025

On Friday, May 2, 2025, the Brownsville-Haywood County Chamber of Commerce proudly celebrated the graduation of the Youth Leadership Class of 2025 with a heartfelt reception held at Haywood High School. The event marked the culmination of a transformative year for nineteen outstanding juniors who participated in the reinstated Haywood Youth Leadership Program.

Honoring Growth, Leadership, and Service

Throughout the school year, these students engaged in a dynamic series of leadership-focused field trips and experiences that highlighted the many facets of life, work, and service in Haywood County. From touring local industries and government facilities to hands-on volunteering at community organizations, the class immersed themselves in real-world leadership lessons that will serve them well into the future.

The program’s monthly themes—ranging from accountability and integrity to communication and motivation—provided a structured framework for growth. Each session included mentorship from local professionals and opportunities to build practical skills through immersive experiences.

A Community Effort

This year’s program was made possible thanks to the dedication of the Leadership Haywood Class of 2024, who reinstated the Youth Leadership initiative under the umbrella of the Chamber of Commerce. Their vision and leadership ensured that a new generation of students had the opportunity to explore their potential and gain valuable insight into the workings of their community.

We are also deeply grateful to the many Chamber-Investing local businesses, organizations, and individuals who contributed time, resources, and mentorship to make this program a success. Your partnership is helping shape tomorrow’s leaders.

Recognizing Excellence

As part of the graduation celebration, one student was honored by Dr. Robert Callery, son of the late Alan Callery, with the Alan Callery Rising Leader Award—an honor chosen jointly by their peers and the Youth Leadership Committee. This recognition highlights a participant who consistently demonstrated initiative, integrity, and leadership throughout the year.

A Moment of Recognition

Chamber Executive Director Sheree Douglas took center stage during the reception to personally congratulate each student and present their certificates of completion. In a warm and inspiring message, she commended the students for their dedication and growth over the past year.

Looking Ahead

The Chamber and the Youth Leadership subcommittee are already looking ahead to next year’s program, as plans are underway to continue building on the momentum and success of this year. We remain committed to nurturing leadership in Haywood County, and the Youth Leadership Program is a key part of that mission.

Congratulations to the Youth Leadership Class of 2025! We are proud of all you’ve accomplished and look forward to seeing how you continue to lead in your schools, communities, and beyond.
